Protest in Fairford concluded lawfully with no arrests made

A planned demonstration in Fairford earlier today (Saturday 25 April) has passed without incident.

There was an increased police presence in the area to enable a lawful procession and demonstration to take place at RAF Fairford.

Approximately 200 people gathered in the area from midday until 3pm. The demonstration remained lawful and no arrests were made.

Police have thanked the public and businesses for their patience and assistance.

Assistant Chief Constable Arman Mathieson said: "I’d like to thank the residents of Fairford for their support and co-operation during today’s demonstration.

"We gradually deployed police officers, in a thoughtful and proportionate manner. This was done to ensure we carefully balanced the rights of those who wanted to protest with the rights of the wider community, whilst ensuring only minor disruption occurred. 

"I’d also like to thank the organisers of the demonstration for their contact with us prior to and during the protest as well our partner agencies, police officers and police staff members who were involved in the operation.

"The role of the police, at such a demonstration, is to keep everyone safe and carefully balance everyone's individual rights, without fear or favour.

"I'm proud of the way in which all officers and staff involved achieved that aim and appreciate the engagement from the local community, demonstration organisers, local partners and neighbouring police forces and their officers.

"Should anyone wish to speak with the police, local community officers will continue to patrol the area."
